PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGEO) has once again captured the attention of Indonesia's capital market as the first quarter of 2026 begins. The renewable energy issuer is increasingly in focus, not only due to its strategic role in geothermal power development, but also because of PGEO's relatively volatile share price movement, which continues to offer both technical and fundamental opportunities.
Share Price Performance and Analyst Ratings
Based on the latest analyst consensus, PGEO is viewed favorably by the majority of market observers. Out of nine analysts covering the stock, eight have issued Buy recommendations, while one maintains a Hold rating. No analysts currently recommend selling the stock. The average 12-month target price stands at approximately IDR 1,755.90, with the highest projection reaching IDR 2,400 and the lowest around IDR 1,250. This implies a potential upside of more than 30% from current market levels.
Over the past 12 months, PGEO shares have traded within a wide range, with a low near IDR 700 and a high approaching IDR 1,855. This broad price movement reflects heightened investor interest, particularly as renewable energy continues to gain traction as a long-term investment theme.
Fundamental Drivers: Energy Transition and Capacity Expansion
From a fundamental perspective, PGEO is strategically positioned to benefit from both domestic and global energy transition trends. The company has set an ambitious target to expand its installed geothermal power generation capacity to nearly 1 gigawatt (GW) over the coming years. Ongoing expansion projects, including the Lumut Balai Unit 3 facility, are expected to serve as key growth catalysts by increasing electricity output and strengthening future revenue streams.
In addition, PGEO benefits from long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Indonesia's state-owned utility PLN. These contracts provide stable and predictable cash flows, making PGEO an attractive option for long-term investors seeking defensive exposure within the energy sector.
Technical Analysis: Mixed but Constructive Signals
From a technical standpoint, PGEO shares currently present a combination of bullish and corrective signals, depending on the time frame used.
On the daily chart, several indicators—including the Relative Strength Index (RSI), MACD, and key moving averages (5-day, 50-day, and 200-day)—continue to point toward a broadly bullish bias in the short-to-medium term. This suggests that buying interest remains intact despite recent volatility.
Further technical studies indicate that as long as PGEO holds above major support levels—such as the 61.8% Fibonacci retracement zone—the stock retains potential to advance toward higher resistance levels. Key resistance areas monitored by analysts are located around IDR 1,290, IDR 1,420, and IDR 1,650. A sustained breakout above these levels would strengthen the case for continued upside momentum.
